I just discovered Hop Skip Jump's Work in Progress Fridays...today. Saturday. A day late. But I'm going to close my eyes, plug my ears, and pretend it's still Friday.
So this is what I started working on earlier this week (...and will hopefully finish later in the week.)
The piece that is in the process of being crocheted is intended to be the bottom of a drawstring lunch bag (inspired by twelve22). I've been slightly (okay, completely) obsessed with creating one for myself ever since I saw the picture on whipup last week. It took my breath away. I was instantly inspired...not only to attempt to recreate a similar bag for myself, but to jump in and join the online crafting community. I'm so happy with creating this journal to catalogue the things that I have been crafting, or intend to make in the future. My management of time and crafting ideas are so much more organized now, and it's only been a week! Yay! Ah, but I digress
Heh, I'll have to admit that I am a complete newbie to sewing. Well, that's not entirely true. I'm quite skilled at hand sewing (one of my longest-running works in progress is a quilt that I started when I was a freshman in college), but I know next to nothing about machine sewing. So one of my personal goals for this year was to purchase a sewing machine (check!) and get a grasp of the basics of machine sewing. So far, I've figured out how to thread the machine, but that's about it. This is really sad, considering that I've had the machine for almost three months. Anyway, I'm going to use the machine to sew the top of the drawstring lunch bag together. I've already got the fabric picked out, and I'm going to use this project to break in my machine sewing skills. After all, how hard can it be? (I'm going to kick myself for saying this later on, I can feel it).
The other project in the picture is a softie in the making. I'm not going to really elaborate on it, as I spent quite a bit of time on it today, and anticipate finishing it very soon. My other half, Kyle, is convinced that it's a dinosaur (it's not). He keeps picking it up and making roaring/growling noises, hehe. At any rate, a full post on the softie will (haha, or maybe it's more correct if I say should) follow shortly.
