Charade

Charade

When Sandra posted her pattern for Charade, a herringbone-stitch sock, I knew I had to make a pair for Kyle.  (He had wanted a hand-knit pair of socks for himself after seeing my first pair of socks.)

I used a beautiful bamboo blend yarn (60% wool, 30% bamboo, 10% nylon) purchased from Ashley on Etsy , in her denim colorway.  I really like the idea of knitting socks with a bamboo yarn, since bamboo is naturally antibacterial and wonderfully soft.  Perfect for socks meant for stinky man-feet.

The only change I made to the pattern was casting on 72 instead of 64 stitches so that the sock would fit a larger foot.  The 2-row repeat for the herringbone pattern was easy to memorize and surprisingly fun to knit.   The second sock practically flew off my needles.

Kyle peeked over my shoulder just now and said, "I have such beautiful feet!"  He's such a big ham sometimes.  What he should have said is "I have such beautiful socks!"  Bah, men.  They never learn, do they? =D

shirley, those socks look fantastic. never thought how the stitch pattern could actually be unisex.

so happy to see you used my pattern. :) i'm quite glad you were able to knit up the sock without too much trouble (seeing how this was my first feeble attempt at pattern writing and whatnot. . . :P)

Awesome job! I don't know if it's possible, but his feet "look" happy! LOL I love your first pic, too!

Beautiful. I am knitting some too and it is addicting!

Those are beautiful socks! Simply gorgeous. I have never heard of bamboo in yarn. I guess I'm not a knitter, so I don't know what varieties are out there.

I just stumbled across your blog---so lovely! You are a very talented knitter :).

lovely socks! i just finished my first pair (in a very basic pattern) and now i'm addicted to socks. there's baby socks going for my sister, socks for my mom on the dpns and my beau has hinted at a pair. not to get too personal, but will the 72 CO size fit a male size 11 foot? thanks!

ur man socks are the first socks that have made me want to knit socks. theyre GORGEOUS! my boyfriend wants socks too and ive never knit socks before. i noticed charade was a womans pattern. u casted on more but did u change nothing else? not even the length? anyways hope to hear...im even considering buying the same yarn as u. IM IN LOVE!
